In early November, Suburban Pup (SP) will turn 7. And on Sunday 19 November, we’ll close our weekly meal orders for the last time.
Growing small businesses are 'enthusiastic lil eaters', requiring regular reinvestment to keep scaling up. I’m proud to have grown/scaled through a pandemic and a flood, bounced back from interest rate craziness, and remained true to SP’s values. But I’ve recently made a holistic decision not to reinvest once again.
I’m aware particular pups need transitioning time. So I’ve allowed for approx 12 more weeks of business-as-usual SP trading while clients identify alternative lightly-cooked, raw, air/freeze-dried or home-prepared meal solutions (we’re still considering future options for our treats). I’m confident that having journeyed gently to fresh with us, you’ll access a much more diverse market than back in 2016, when I couldn’t find what I was looking for and created SP. I won’t be recommending specific brands, because quite simply, my own Chief and Co-Chief Tasters haven’t tasted them.
I’m adamant that there’s no such thing as a dog food emergency (!) and while we may feel sad, we will all be ok. So comments are turned off on this post. Our awesome stockists and loyal current clients have already received this message personally, and have my direct phone and email details for advice about adjusting your order now or later. For anyone reading this for the first time, my email is
anna@suburbanpup.com.au should you need it; DMs will also be directed to email.
Finally for now, I’m conscious I’m one of numerous 7-y-o businesses who’ve announced their closure recently. Please don’t let that stop you shopping small. Small business people put their personal finances, careers and often their bodies on the line because they believe that things can be done differently – and they’re agile enough to prove it. Anna x
